Special Traveling Exhibit: Opens March 1: FLY GIRLS - “FLY GIRLS” is a tribute to the all-female WWII WASP pilots that history forgot. Over 1000 women joined the Women Air Force Service Pilots, WASPS, and 38 died while flying planes for the US military. At the end of the war their records were sealed, and none received veteran benefits. Women were not officially permitted to fly planes for the US Air Force until 1976. This exhibition tells a sobering story of broken promises that happened 80 years ago. One of the WASPS leaders was Nashvillian Cornelia Fort. She was also the first WASP to die while in service. Each work integrates vintage photographs, artifacts, news clippings, digital art, and encaustic wax paint. They are designed to be viewed from a distance and up close so the viewer can read the embedded text and learn their stories. Accompanying QR codes will direct viewers to education components and school curriculum materials. Artist: Alison Fullerton – CLOSES APRIL 15
